As industrial robots expand into new and more flexible applications, the ability to sense and understand the environment becomes more important. Trends in collaborative robotics, dynamic path planning, and mobility are driving the need to perceive environments in 3D. Recent innovations in 3D sensor technologies and algorithms are evolving rapidly to respond to these needs. This session will present recent developments in software, sensors, and applications in industrial, manufacturing, and logistics for 3D sensing in robot guidance tasks. Specific application examples for industrial processes such as painting and material removal using 3D sensors for robot programming will be presented.
