As part of the lead-up to ROSCon SG 2026, the Singapore ROS Meetup community will be organizing a Pre-ROSCON SG Hackathon focused on contributing to the world's leading open-source robotics projects. The afternoon session will take place on 23 October 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at The Meeting Point, Singapore.

This hands-on community event is designed to help participants make their first meaningful contribution to widely adopted robotics software ecosystems, including ROS 2, Gazebo, and Open-RMF. Attendees will have the opportunity to work directly alongside project maintainers and experienced contributors, gaining practical experience in building software from source, resolving real-world issues, and submitting pull requests to open-source repositories.

The hackathon welcomes students, researchers, software developers, and robotics engineers of all experience levels. A selection of beginner-friendly issues will be curated for newcomers, while mentors and maintainers will be on hand throughout the session to guide participants through the contribution process. The event aims to lower the barrier to entry for open-source robotics development while fostering greater collaboration within the local and global robotics communities.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops with administrator privileges, as software installation and development environment setup may be required during the workshop.

By the end of the session, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how leading robotics frameworks are developed and maintained, while becoming active contributors to technologies that power robots deployed across research, industry, and commercial applications worldwide.
