Date and time: from 11.30, May 28, to 15.00, May 29, 2018

HRIM: A standard interface for robot modules (session organized in collaboration with Erle Robotics)

Interoperability among different hardware components with the purpose of building robot modules and thereby, modular robots, is an increasingly felt needed among vendors and users of robot technology. Starting point of the discussion will be the Hardware Robot Information Model (HRIM), an initiative by Erle Robotics to enable "plug and play robotics".

PLC<->ROS interoperability (session organized in collaboration with INESC TEC)

The increasing need to interface ROS with industrial machinery is finding solutions that are often developed independently and for ad-hoc needs. This session presents tools developed at Fraunhofer IPA and partner institutions, with the goal to possibly gather users and developers with similar needs around them. Specifically:

  • a CODESYS<->ROS gateway, extending the ROS computation graph to PLCs programmed through the CODESYS development environment;
  • an OPC-UA wrapper for ROS nodes, making ROS action servers available as OPC-UA part 10-compliant programs within an automation network;
  • a review of available ROS implementations of fieldbuses such as modbus, can_open, and others.

ROSIN SW QA measures (session organized in collaboration with IT-University Copenhagen and TU Delft)

The session will present a status report on the software quality assurance measures being developed by the ROSIN project after an extensive study of Quality Assurance Process and Community Management performed during the first year of the project. An outlook of tools under development to support such measures will be given.
